Youth Power the Planet: A fight against single-use plastic in South Sudan

January 12, 2024

The impact of plastic pollution is a critical issue that needs to be addressed in South Sudan and beyond. Youth, who represent a significant proportion of South Sudan population are not active and engaged in finding solutions. It is speculated that engagement of youth in tackling plastic pollution will prove effective and relevant. In light of that, CAPws South Sudan will organise a dialogue in honor of International Zero Waste Month’s celebration.

Objectives
1) Show-case to decision-makers that young people can and want to be engaged as positive agents of change for more healthy and sustainable communities
2) Raise awareness about how zero-waste initiatives contribute to the engagement of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development
3) Create a space for young people ( children, adolescent and youth) to hear and learn from other young people regarding ideas and actions being taken to create social and environmental change

Approach

The event will be a talk-show style panel discussion with four speakers preferably and youth, and with gender consideration in the number of speakers i.e two female speakers and two male speakers. The event will run for approximately 3hrs( one day). All speakers will speak to the tune of the theme of the day.
